Biography
Tammy Chamblee currently serves as a public health consultant and teaches at the collegiate level. She is the former Chief Nurse of Emergency Planning and Response at the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH). While there, she served as the State Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) Coordinator as well as the State Pandemic Influenza Coordinator. With the responsibility for the day to day oversight of these programs, Tammy was heavily involved in all-hazards planning for the state of Mississippi. Both of these programs involve MSDH internal partnerships as well as external partnerships across the state. Tammy developed an ESF-8 communication model, the MS ESF-8 Healthcare Coalition (MEHC) that is a vital part of the ESF-8 response process in MS. Prior to coming into the Emergency Preparedness field, Tammy was a County Coordinating Nurse for the MSDH. In this role, she was involved in many public health challenges that included multiple epidemiological outbreak investigations. Tammy retired from state service with over 33 years of experience and is very passionate about the area of public health preparedness.
Tammy received her Associate of Science degree in Nursing in 1982 from Itawamba Community College and started work for the Mississippi State Department of Health in 1983. She later acquired her Baccalaureate of Science degree in Nursing from the Mississippi University for Women. In 2013, she received her MA in Homeland Security from the Naval Postgraduate School. Tammy has received certifications such as the Certified Healthcare Emergency Professional (CHEP) and is a graduate of the South Central Public Health Leadership Institute (SCPHLI). She has also received multiple awards from the Mississippi Public Health Association which include the Mary D. Osborne Public Health Nurse of the Year in 2006 and the Jon Vic Bailey award for 2010.
Outside of work, most of Tammy’s time is spent with her family which includes four grandsons less than 8years old.
